Location, Location, Location

Job growth and expanding economic diversity are the two major goals of the Industrial Development Authority. The IDA is constantly seeking ways to recruit, retain and expand industry and business.

Geographically located in the heart of SE Georgia, Wayne County is uniquely situated for industry looking to expand or relocate. Two major four-lane highways (Hwy. 341 and Hwy. 301) run through the heart of Jesup and provide easy access to I-95 (approx. 40 miles), the deep water ports of Savannah (approx. 70 miles) and Jacksonville (approx. 90 miles), as well as, the port at Brunswick. In addition, two railroads (CSX and Norfolk Southern) provide service to Wayne County.

While some of the criteria companies use to determine a particular area to build or expand are elusive, there are basic building blocks that are essential. Geographic location, economic incentives and availability of a good workforce are always important. Wayne County has all three.

An Existing Industry Council helps strengthen ties with the industry and manufacturers in our community. Increased communication helps the IDA to better understand the opportunities and challenges facing our major employers.

Altamaha Technical College is essential in preparing the workforce with the skills that industrial and manufacturing prospects are looking for. There are also programs available to train workers with skills needed for particular jobs.
